My first experience with Nief-Norf was at Mead’s Quarry where they were performing John Luther Adams “Inuksuit” (an outdoor piece for 100 percussionists) for Big Ears, 2016. To say the least, I was taken by their creativity and experimental vibe. I shot “Inuksuit” that day just for fun and posted some those photos to Instagram. They saw them and loved them. Long story short, Kimberly reached out to Nief-Norf about a possible future collaboration and a year later, we had the opportunity to document their 2017 Big Ears Festival performances.
